Workshop for New Public Library Directors, 2009
Every fall the Division of Library Development sponsors a workshop for new public library directors in Connecticut. Find out how new directors benefit from attending.

Division of Library Development Welcomes
New Public Library Directors

Each year the Connecticut State Library's Division of Library Development (DLD) hosts a special workshop over brunch for public library directors who are new to their positions.  It is an opportunity for the directors to learn more about DLD services and resources and to get to know one another.  It also gives DLD staff a chance to know the new directors better and assess services and resources that might be helpful to them.

Staff of the Connecticut Library Consortium (CLC) and the President of the Connecticut Library Association also participate describing their services and support for Connecticut libraries.

Attendees at this year's which was held at the Middletown Library Service Center on November 13th were: Frank Ferro, Fairfield Public Library; Deborah Sharpe, Braken Library in Woodstock; Suzanne Maryeski, New London; Karen Giugno and Susan Rooney, Cragin Library in Colchester, Patricia Rutkowksi, New Britain; Peter Ciparelli, Killingly Library; and Karen Jensen, Haraman Memorial in East Haven.
The morning included a welcome from State Librarian Kendall Wiggin and then presentations by CLC, CLA and DLD staff detailing their services and programs.  Each director received a resource notebook with detailed information on DLD programs as well as a glossary of library acronyms.

If any new library directors are not able to attend, DLD staff are available to talk with them at their library.

For more information on DLD services for public library directors contact: Sharon Brettschneider, Director, Connecticut State Library, Division of Library Development, sbrett@cslib.org.
