Connecticar Guidelines and Procedures 1. Service is to the principal public libraries, academic libraries and to other institutions and agencies which have been approved by the Director if the Division of Library Development. Refer to the routing schedules by library and town. 2. Materials transported by Connecticar are limited to the following without exception: · Connecticard materials in all formats 3. Libraries must designate a Connecticar pickup point in their facility. This point must be convenient for the driver, off the ground, and hand truck-accessible. All designated pickup points are subject to approval by the Connecticar Supervisor. 4. Routing slips will be furnished by the State Library through Connecticar. Email Wmagnavice@cslib.org to request routing slips. Allow 4 weeks for printing and delivery. You also may print and copy your own. The slips are available on our website in Word or PDF format. 5. Tubs will be supplied by the State Library to the service libraries based on each library's average daily requirements and the availability of containers. 6. In the event that a service library has a larger-than-normal load which exceeds its supply of CSL- furnished sort tubs, the service library will be responsible for providing the extra boxes or bags needed to accommodate the overload. 7. The State Library maintains a listserv to improve communication to libraries about the delivery service. All public and academic libraries should have at least one staff person subscribe to the listserv. If a Connecticar route will not be running on a particular day, a message will be sent to the list. To subscribe go to: http://mylist.net/listinfo/ccarlist. Scroll down to "Subscribing to Ccarlist". 8. All questions about Connecticar service should be directed to the Connecticar Supervisor or the Director of Library Development. If your library does not receive delivery as scheduled you should contact Avant Services if you are an “A” route library or Walt Magnavice if you are a “B” route library. See Connecticar Contact information. Packing and Shipping Procedures 1. Fold routing slip over front cover of book and secure with rubber bands. 2. You may secure average-size materials together with rubber bands, but do not exceed four items to a package. That’s the absolute maximum for small books. Two is usually best. Secure large books separately. 3. Bind together only similar-size materials, using adequate rubber banding to secure each package. No tape please. 4. For each package, complete the appropriate routing slip with the following information: · Library delivery number · Shipping date · Library name · Use the routing slip “Remarks” section to indicate if the materials are going to a specific library branch or individual in the destination library. 5. To permit proper stacking and to eliminate damage to books: cartons, tubs or bags must not be loaded above their sides. Materials will not be transported if containers are overloaded, inaccessible, improperly labeled, or improperly sorted. 6. The weight of any carton may not exceed 40 pounds. 7. All CDs and DVDs and other fragile or damageable items must be packaged in secured, heavy envelopes. Bubble style envelopes are preferred. A “DVD” label must be placed near the seal of the envelope. Labels are available for printing. 8. Multiple items being sent to one library may be packaged in a heavy plastic bag, minimum 4 ml thick and secured with a rubber band. Only one routing label is necessary for the package but must be placed in a clearly visible location inside the bag. The bag can then be placed in a tub. 9. Place all cartons and bags ready for pickup on a surface at least 2 feet above the floor. 10. In the event a book is separated from its Ccar routing slip it will be returned to the owning library. 11. There is no reimbursement for lost items.
