Administers and provides consulting with public libraries on State Public Library Construction Grants, a construction grant program for public libraries in Connecticut. This involves helping libraries from the conception of an idea to the completion of a project by meeting with library staff and library boards and by reviewing building programs, construction grant applications, and schematic drawings.

Consults on the arrangement of existing library space for public libraries, state agency libraries, and state institution libraries. This includes helping with a layout and/or completing the Library Space Planning Guide (312kb PDF) and worksheet (248kb) (Excel), a guide for public libraries to help determine how much space a library needs for the future.

Consults and helps public libraries find answers to questions about the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). (The Americans with Disabilities Act Document Center can also provide you with additional information and documents).

Coordinate workshops on library space, Libratects (a series of workshops held at public libraries that were recently new or renovated where librarians, trustees, architects, and others discuss the planning and designing from concept to completion), furniture, ADA issues for public libraries, the construction grants, library architectural plans discussions, and other topics. Please feel free to make suggestions on topics for workshops that would help you. This is a listing of all of the workshops.

Coordinates the Connecticut Award for Excellence in Public Library Architecture (two awards every three years)
