General Information Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Connecticut Links and sources of Information on Connecticut’s History
Resources include an extensive collection of local histories and genealogies, with particular emphasis on Connecticut and
New England. Most Connecticut town vital records, land records, and probate records from the 1600s to the early 1900s on microfilm; naturalization records; church records from hundreds of Connecticut churches, most available on microfilm; transcriptions of family Bible records and cemetery inscriptions; published and microfilmed ships' passenger lists; abstracts of newspaper notices of marriages and deaths; and military records, including those from the Revolutionary War and the Civil War. Federal census records for Connecticut, 1790-1920 and for the other New England states, New York, Pennsylvania, and Ohio, 1790-1850 and the Index
to New England Naturalization Petitions on microfilm.
Detailed research guides are available on a number of topics including the aerial photograph collection; Connecticut; and
World War II resources; African American and Native American materials; and women's history.
Some archival records contain information about individuals; searchable databases of this information are available at Databases of Individuals listed in State Archives Records.
Related materials include comprehensive and retrospective collections of Connecticut atlases and maps (including Sanborn Fire Insurance Atlases) and city directories.
2,050 titles spanning almost 250 years. Most Connecticut newspapers are here -- all the dailies, most weeklies, and many special
interest newspapers -- ethnic, business, religious, and political. The completeness of holdings for titles ranges from a full
run of the Hartford Courant, 1764 to the present, to the solitary copy of several one-issue-only newspapers.
There is also a fee-based Genealogical Index Search Service.
Government Information Services The Connecticut State Depository Library Program and the Federal Depository Library Program provide access to comprehensive collections of Connecticut and United States government
publications. Public policy resources, general reference resources and current Connecticut Newspapers are also accessible.
Law & Legislation Resources CT Public and Special Acts, Connecticut General Statutes Connecticut’s Four Constitutions Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped This special Library provides free mail loan of recorded and Braille books and magazines and necessary playback equipment
to eligible state residents unable to read conventional print because of a visual or physical disability.
