Sharon Brettschneider, Director of the Division of Library Development is the State Library's liaison to library trustees. She works closely with the Association of Connecticut Library Boards (ACLB) to provide consulting assistance to local boards on topics including board development, legal issues, library governance, policy development, recruiting a library director and many others. The Division of Library Development also maintains a collection of professional development materials that contain resources for library trustees. Search the catalog or call one of the Service Centers for assistance. We also publish a sampling of the titles each month.
Association of Connecticut Library Boards
ACLB is Connecticut's library trustee organization representing public library boards throughout the state. This site offers resources for boards.

The Division of Library Development and the Association of Connecticut Library Boards work together to provide training to Connecticut trustees. They co-sponsor a workshop at the Connecticut Library Association Annual Conference and will be presenting a series of "trustee basics" workshops each year.

This course from the University of North Texas Library School was developed in conjunction with the Nebraska Library Commission to assist the new trustee or board member in learning what their new responsibility entails. The course is also very useful for current board members who want to know more about their role and duties. Issues covered include how to run a board meeting, duties of the library trustee and the library director, library advocacy, library laws, accreditation and certification, bylaws, and policy-making.
