Project Abstract:
The Teen Gaming Initiative will engage underserved teens with video gaming and high-interest literature programming. Teens will attend video game tournaments and open play days at the library, after which they will be aided in selecting printed materials related to their gaming interests. The program will increase the participants’ ability to relate their gaming interests to printed media such as books and magazines and provide them with teamwork and leadership opportunities for leadership roles through helping plan and implement the program. LSTA funding will provide library materials, gaming systems, games, staff trainings, and supplies.

In collaboration with Windham High School Library Media Center, the library will increase the programming, services, and materials available to young adults in the community by: creating a library satellite in the town's teen center. The project’s components include a Young Adult Outreach Librarian, young adult ‘Book Ambassadors,’ increased hours of operation and services at the high school library, an enhanced, shared collection, programming, and promotional materials, and implementing a Teen Advisory Board and Collaborative Advisory Board.
