The Connecticut State Library recently conducted a survey to see if economic hard times really have had an impact on library use in Connecticut public libraries. During the past fiscal year from July 2008 to June 2009 many libraries saw a big increase in circulation, library visits, reference questions, program attendance and internet use.

Many of these same libraries are facing a fiscal year 2010 with smaller budgets. The survey also asked libraries if their budgets for the coming year were increased, decreased, or flat funded. The results show that many busy libraries will be getting by with less.

The Division of Library Development of the Connecticut State Library would like to thank the 74 Connecticut public libraries that provided data for this survey.
